Losing your retainer can be extremely frustrating. Not only does it mean you’ll have to make an additional visit to your orthodontist and pay for a replacement, your treatment may lapse as your teeth may try and move back to their previous position.
Because of this, it’s wise to take steps to ensure you keep track of your retainer!
Want to take extra steps to keep your retainer safe? Below are some suggestions from us.
Always use your retainer case
If you do need to take your retainer out, such as while you eat or take part in contact sports, it’s a good idea to always put it in your retainer case. This will make it easier to keep track of, and less likely to get lost inside a bigger bag or container.
Choose a spot for your retainer and stick to it
If you always put your retainer in the same place it’ll be much easier to keep track of it. This is particularly key if you’ve been advised that you only need to wear your retainer at night. If you keep your retainer in it’s case in the same spot each day, you’ll always be able to find it at bedtime.
Use a secure zipped pocket when traveling
Traveling can be another common time for retainers to get misplaced. Do what you can to prevent this by putting your retainer in its case and zipping it securely into an inner pocket in your suitcase or overnight bag.
